Founded in 1956, the Humane Society of Southern Illinois operated as the area’s only open-access shelter until 2024, when we closed our facility and subsequently sold it to Jackson County for use as their animal control facility.

Since then, we have supported the community by selling low-cost spay/neuter vouchers, giving away pet food and flea/tick preventatives, and donating pet food to local food banks. We also partner yearly with Jackson County Animal Control to provide low-cost vaccine clinics.
